Questions and answers
Frequently asked
What is Courtmate?
Padel in Malawi, in one place: record matches and split the cost, enter tournaments, follow one national ranking, find clubs and buy kit in the shop.
Is Courtmate live yet?
Partly. Registration is open today, and so are the public pages: the club directory, the rankings board and the Founding 100.
Matches, tournaments and the rest of the app open in stages. Register now and your profile is ready.
Does Courtmate book courts for me?
Only at clubs that take bookings on Courtmate. Everywhere else, book with the club directly, then record your match on Courtmate.
How does paying my share of a match work?
The host shares a link. Open it, check your share and Courtmate's fee, and pay by Airtel Money or TNM Mpamba. Courtmate doesn't take cards.
When does the host get the money?
From two hours after the match ends, or from two hours after a share is paid if that is later.
What if a match never happened?
If you joined it, report it from the match. The host isn't paid while we look into it.
Can I get a refund on a tournament entry?
You can ask to withdraw before the draw is made, and the organiser decides. After the draw there are no refunds. If a tournament is cancelled, entry money Courtmate still holds is refunded straight away, and the rest when the organiser returns it.
Refunds go back to the number that paid. Courtmate's fee and the payment processing charge are not refunded.
How do the rankings work?
Every player has one Elo rating. Eligible Courtmate matches move it — beating a stronger player moves you further. New ratings are marked provisional until you've played enough matches.
The public page shows the national top 25. The full board, city boards and your own position are in the app.
What is the Founding 100?
The first 100 people to finish registering are recognised as founding members. Each gets a permanent founding number, a founding badge on their profile, and entry into the launch giveaway.
Numbers go in the order registrations finish and can't be bought or transferred. The roll is public and permanent.
Is there an app I can download?
Not yet. The iPhone and Android apps are coming to the App Store and Google Play. Until then, don't install anything claiming to be Courtmate.
Courtmate works in your phone's browser today, and the same account will sign you into the apps.
Where does Courtmate operate?
Malawi only. New cities are added as clubs open.
What does it cost to play through Courtmate?
Creating an account is free. A charge is added to each share paid for a match and to each tournament entry. The total is shown before you pay. A court you book directly with a club is paid to the club.
I run a padel club. How do I get listed?
Fill in the form on list your venue. Listing is free.
How do I report or block someone?
Open the menu on a post, comment or message and choose Report. You can also block a player. We review every report, and remove content and accounts that break the rules.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Profile and choose Delete my account. You can also follow the steps on delete your account. It is immediate and can't be undone.
What happens to my data?
Your phone number, email and date of birth are never shown to other players. Only your name and standing are public, and founding members appear on the founding roll.
Read the Privacy Policy, or delete your account at any time.
